Albert L. "Bo" Ickes, Jr., 63, Findlay, died at 8:15 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Findlay on March 18, 1945 to the late Albert L. Sr. and Dora (Daniels) Ickes. On May 7, 1965, he married Inge Bichler and she survives. Also surviving is a son, Anthony "Tony" (Janine) Ickes, Bairdstown; grandsons, Austyn and Ethan Ickes; brother, Larry (Barbara) Ickes, Findlay; and sisters, Janet (Carl) Wise and June (Scott) Sadler, both of Bairdstown. He was preceded in death by a son, Harold Dawayne Ickes. Mr. Ickes was a U.S. Army veteran. He was stationed in both Germany and Vietnam. Bo was retired from National Electric Carbide. He was a life-time member of both the AMVETS and DAV and attended the Bairdstown United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2008, at SMITH-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, North Baltimore, with Pastor Terri Baird officiating. Burial will be in Weaver Cemetery where the Hancock County Veteran's Memorial Squad will be presenting full military rites. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Allen P. Sampson, 84, resident of Shelby, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky, following a two week illness. Born Jan. 30, 1924 to Ralph D. and Huldah L. (Peterman) Sampson in Findlay, he was raised in Fostoria and had been a Mansfield-Shelby area resident for the past 35 years. A 1942 graduate of Fostoria High School, he was employed throughout his life with National Machinery in Tiffin, Rupp Industries in Mansfield, Donn Products in Westlake, retiring in 1992 from Fisher Control, Mansfield. A veteran of the United States Army, he served in the 68th Army Airway Communication System Group from February 1943 to February 1946 during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Oakland Lutheran Church in Mansfield, Sycamore American Legion Post #250 and Mansfield VFW Post #3494. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and was an avid fan of NASCAR with his favorite drivers being Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. Survivors include two children, Delice Lemaster, McCutchenville; and Douglas (Jan) Sampson, Tiffin; one stepson, Wayne (Judy) Mahoney, Marion; two stepdaughters, Wanda Taylor, Sycamore; and Kay (John) Caldwell, Massillon; five grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 16 step great-grandchildren; two great-great-step-grandchildren; one sister, LaVonne Rice, Upper Sandusky; one brother, Carl (MaryLou), Tea, S.D.; one uncle and aunt, Eli and Ruth Sampson, Findlay; one niece and three nephews; his companion and caregiver of 35 years, Donna Parks, Shelby; her children, Debra Parks, Shiloh; Linda (Mike)Swanger, Shelby; Roger (Coleen) Parks, Ganges; Carol (Peter) Davis, Shelby; Donna's grandchildren, Brian, Andy, Brandi and Brittany Parks; and other relatives. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Mildred (Guernsey) Sampson; his wife, Hazel (Bish ) Mahoney Sampson; one stepgranddaughter, Cara Grimm; and a step great-grandson. Graveside funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore, with the Rev. Ron Daley of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church officiating.
