A Fostoria man was arrested Thursday night after allegedly robbing two men at gunpoint.

Sammy Torres, 22, 404 N. Union St., was arrested by Fostoria Police officers at a North Countyline Street residence after officers followed footprints from the scene of the alleged crime.

Officers received a call at approximately 10 p.m. Thursday of a complaint of shots fired in an alley at West Center and North Countyline streets.

Fostoria Police Chief John McGuire said two men explained they had been robbed by a man known to them as “Soso,” later idenitifed as Torres. The alleged victims explained they were from Toledo and had been searching for a car to buy when they recieved a call from Torres, who said he was selling a vehicle in Fostoria.

The alleged victims picked Torres up to take him to the location of the vehicle.

“While they were driving, (Torres) stated he needed to stop by a residence to pick up the title,” McGuire said.

The men claimed, while the vehicle was stopped in the alley, Torres pulled out a gun and fired a shot into the radio in the dash and then pointed the gun at the driver’s head and demanded all their money.

The men had brought $800 with them to purchase the vehicle and handed it over to Torres, who then fled the scene on foot toward West Center Street, according to McGuire.

Officers found footprints at the scene. The tracks were followed to a residence on North Countyline Street. A female resident allowed officers inside, while a Seneca County Sheriff’s deputy provided backup.

Torres was discovered in the bathroom of the residence. An undisclosed amount of money was scattered in the bathroom and a cell phone was in pieces, also.

McGuire said an area of pulled up carpeting was discovered and a Derringer semi-automatic was located.

The radio was not securely mounted in the vehicle where the robbery took place, McGuire said, so that was taken for evidence because officers believe the bullet is still lodged inside.

Torres was arrested on charges of aggravated robbery, tampering with evidence, having weapons under disability and a failure to appear warrant out of Fostoria Municipal Court.
