Four Review Times staff members were nominated as finalists for nine separate categories in Division I of the Associated Press Society of Ohio’s 2009 newspaper competition Tuesday.
Among the finalists were news editor Joel Sensenig for “Best Columnist;” staff writer Chandra Niklewski for “Best Feature Writer” and “Best News Writer;” sports editor Scott Cottos for “Best Sports Columnist” and “Best Sports Feature Writer;” and Jason Smith for “Best Graphic Artist,” “Best Informational Graphic,” and “Best Illustration.” The Review Times staff was also nominated as a finalist for “Best Full Page Layout.”
Division I is comprised of newspapers with daily circulation up to 7,999 and entries were judged by editors from the Potomac News, Woodbridge, Va.
The awards in actual order of finish will be announced at the annual APSO annual convention May 2 in Columbus. The General Excellence, First Amendment and Special Recognition winners also will be announced at the meeting.
Sixty-five daily newspapers submitted 2,794 entries in the contest.
The Associated Press is a not-for-profit news cooperative representing 1,500 newspapers and 5,000 broadcast stations in the United States. Members of AP include 88 daily newspapers in Ohio.
