The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for northwest Ohio for Tuesday morning through Wednesday evening for northwest Ohio.

Snow is expected to begin falling in Wood, Hancock and Seneca counties Tuesday and to accumulate up to three to five inches, according to the weather service.

Snow is expected to continue overnight with a 70 percent chance of snow on Wednesday. Wind gusts on Wednesday may reach up to 35 mph.

A Level 1 Roadway Advisory warns drivers roadways are icy and also hazardous with blowing and drifting snow, according to the Seneca County Sheriff's Office. Drivers are asked to proceed very carefully.

A Level 2 Roadway Warning advises that only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be on the roadways.

A Level 3 Roadway Emergency indicates roads are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be out during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel. All employees should follow the guidelines set by their employers in the event of a Level 3 Emergency. Those traveling on roadways may subject themselves to arrest.

Over the weekend, the sheriff's office in Hancock County reported 71 disabled vehicles from 9 p.m. Friday to 6 p.m. Saturday. But the sheriff's office said there had been only a couple of accidents since Friday, none of which involved injuries.

Seneca County sheriff's office had handled about eight crashes or reports of vehicles in ditches from about 5-10 p.m. Friday, according to published reports.

On Saturday, most of the accidents Seneca County was handling involved vehicles in ditches.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation, as much as 17 inches of snow fell on highways in some areas of Ohio between Friday and Saturday afternoons, and snow fell at 2 inches per hour in the eastern part of the state overnight.

Ohio counties receiving the most snowfall from the storm were Columbiana, Mahoning and Summit counties in northeast Ohio. The Ohio Department of Transportation recorded 18 inches of snow in all three counties.
