Riverside rolls past St. Wendelin, 48-0
DE GRAFF -- Gunner Whitaker scored four touchdowns and De Graff Riverside ran out to a 41-0 first-quarter lead Friday night on its way to pounding St. Wendelin 48-0 in a Northwest Central Conference game.

Whitaker scored on runs of 41, 9 and 33 yards in the first quarter.

Kyle Bauman caught a 30-yard pass from Bryce Hodge. Joe Coulson ran in from 30 yards out and Jeff Castellante returned an interception 70 yards.

David Meade was 5-of-six on extra points and the first quarter ended with the Pirates well on their way to improving to 5-4 overall and 4-2 in NWCC play while dropping the Mohawks to 0-9 and 0-6.

Mohawks coach Bill Hrabak said the early deficit set the tone for the night, and that his young squad was outmanned and unable to overcome its mistakes.

"They (Riverside) scored three quick touchdowns on us and before we knew it, we were out of it," Hrabak said. "They ran through us and by us. They just had too much team speed.

"They did the same thing to our offense," Hrabak added. "We tried to spread them out and they just got into the gaps (in the offensive line) and we didn't pick them up. They used a lot of combination blitzes and we weren't picking them up.

"Instead of hitting somebody, we hit nobody a couple of times, and we paid for it."

Riverside posted the final points of the game in the second quarter as Chad Keith returned a punt 60 yards and Meade booted the extra point.

St. Wendelin's lone scoring opportunity came in the fourth quarter, but Clare Berry's field goal attempt sailed wide right.
