The ballot in Fostoria will be a little emptier Nov. 3 now that two candidates have withdrawn from the election.
David Guernsey withdrew from the Fostoria Community School Board election while Greg Flores has reportedly withdrawn from the six-way race for three at large seats on Fostoria City Council.
Guernsey's departure from the ballot leaves just two candidates, Patrick D. Grine and Anthony Thompson, for three open seats.
"Mr. Guernsey submitted his letter on September 4th, so his name was never printed on the ballot," said Janet Leahy, director of the Seneca County Board of Elections.
Hollie Reedy, director of legal services for Ohio School Boards Association, said the vacant BOE seat will be appointed.
"This happens fairly commonly," Reedy said. "The board will start on January one with four members and begin the board vacancy process. They will have 30 days to fill the vacancy, but they cannot fill it within the first ten days.
"They can have interested parties come in to meetings between now and then to interview, or the district can adopt their own policy on how to will the vacancy."
As for Flores, his wife Amy, said today her husband has withdrawn from the race due to health issues.
Regardless, for now, Flores is still listed on the ballot as a contender for a Council at large seat.
"We've never gotten anything in writing from him (Flores). Until we do, we cannot withdraw him," Leahy said.
