An investigation is underway into a two-car accident that resulted in the death of a pregnant Fostoria woman and left another seriously injured Thursday.
Ashley Wilson, 21, died at 6:20 p.m. Thursday at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo due to injuries she sustained as a passenger in a vehicle that collided with another outside Port Clinton. She was in her first trimester of pregnancy, according to Lucas County deputy coroner Dr. Diane Barnett.
Wilson was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Troopers from the Sandusky County Highway Patrol reported that Wilson was a passenger of a vehicle, driven by Anna Bowman, 20, Sandusky, traveling westbound on Wilcox Road in Bay Township when the car went left of center and struck an oncoming vehicle driven by Lisa Meyer, 45, Sandusky. According to troopers, both vehicles ended up at the edge of the eastbound lane.
Meyer suffered minor injuries and was transported from the scene to Magruder Memorial Hospital in Port Clinton, along with passenger Samantha Meyer, 12, and Scott Gdovicak, 39, both of Oak Harbor. She has since been released from the hospital.
Bowman was listed in fair condition at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital on Monday.
The accident remains under investigation and a cause to the crash is yet to be determined, according to the Sandusky County Highway Patrol.
