The St. Wendelin School's Education Foundation is marking the 10th year since establishment of the Karcher Music Scholarship Fund donated by Richard E. and Garland M. Karcher in honor of the 50th wedding anniversary in November 1999. Celebrating their 60th anniversary on Nov. 24, the Karchers have now witnessed the award of the music scholarship to ten deserving St. Wendelin High School students in furtherance of their college education.
All of the recipients of this merit-based award have been students who demonstrated past and present musical achievement, pursuit of academic excellence, extra curricular and community involvement, along with personal accomplishments.
"We are so gratified to have had many blessing showered on us throughout our lifetimes and particularly during our sixty year marriage," Mr. Karcher commented. "Our children benefited tremendously from the musical education they received through St. Wendelin and we felt this scholarship would assist in ensuring musical excellence at the parish high school."
"Indeed it has," said Father Nicholas Weibl, pastor of St. Wendelin, who expressed the continued gratitude of the parish, indicating "the establishment of this music scholarship is one of the many ways to enhance opportunities available to our students. We appreciate the vision demonstrated by the Karcher family and look forward to the continued support this scholarship provides our music program."
