Sometimes fighting crime can be accomplished in a classroom.
Twenty-three law enforcement officers from Seneca, Sandusky, Wyandot, Wood and Hancock counties attended an educational seminar in Tiffin Thursday to learn how to fight illegal trafficking and abuse of prescription medications.
"Since our community has had a dramatic increase in doctor shopping, pill selling and fraudulent prescription cases in just the last two years, we felt it was imperative for our local law enforcement community to be able to recognize and combat prescription drug abuse and diversion. The Tiffin Police Department is dedicated to this training for not only our officers, but for other law enforcement in our area," said Sergeant Frederick W. Stevens of the Tiffin Police Department.
Attendees included law enforcement officers from the Tiffin, Clyde and Republic Police Departments, the Seneca County Sheriff's Office, as well as agents from the Adult Parole Authority, the Seneca County Juvenile Probation and Tiffin Municipal Court Probation.
The education session was led by Ritch Wagner and Landon Gibbs from Purdue Pharma's Law Enforcement Liaison and Education Department. Wagner and Gibbs each have almost 30 years of law enforcement experience, including investigating the illegal trafficking, or diversion, of prescription medications.
