More Toy Store tickets available
By Linda Woodland

There are three days left before the Review Times puts a wrap on its annual Toy Store drive.

And the outpouring from the community has been exactly what one would expect -- overwhelmingly generous.

“The Fostoria Altrusa Club, which disbanded this past year, still had $600 in their account so they went out and bought toys for us to distribute at the Toy Store,” Mary Perkins, publisher of the Review Times said.

Adding to that generous gift, the Fostoria Lions Club donated $1,000 worth of toys to the annual giveaway for Fostoria families in need.

Fostoria's Assembly of God Church delivered $250 in toys last month to kick off the annual drive.

In addition, scores of individuals, groups and Girl and Boy Scout troops have purchased and donated new toys to the annual drive.

Because of the community's big-heartedness, more families will be able to participate in the Toy Store this year.

“We were able to give the Bureau of Concern 80 more tickets to give to families who qualify for the giveaway,” Perkins said Monday afternoon.

Jennifer Brough of the Bureau of Concern explained that families who qualify for the Christmas baskets done in conjunction with the Red Cross and Food Pantry also qualify to receive tickets to exchange for a toy for their children age 12 and young.

“The initial 275 tickets we started out with were gone in the first three days they were available,” Brough said. “So we had to turn away a lot of families.”

But Brough said now that 80 more tickets are available, those families can now return to the bureau and receive tickets while they last.

“These tickets will be given away on a first-come, first-serve basis to the families who qualified, but had to be turned away,” Brough said.

Tickets are available at the bureau today and Thursday only this week from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.

And while many toys have been collected, more are still needed to put a gift under the tree of children from Fostoria families in need.

The greatest need is gifts for girls ages 6-8 and 9-12. Gifts for boys ages 0-2 and 9-12 are also in short supply.

Toy donations can be made at the Review Times, 113 E. Center St.; Kmart, 620 Plaza Drive; the office of Dr. Derik Utz and Dr. Thomas C. Guernsey, 521 Summit St.; the office of Dr. Steven Geroski, 430 Elm St., during regular business hours, and Higher Ground Ministries, 456 Columbus Ave.

Donated toys should be new, unopened and unwrapped. Monetary donations are also welcome at the newspaper.
